The Ready Vet story

Ready Vet is a family-owned veterinary surgery on the Atherton Tablelands offering a tailored and personal approach to veterinary care. It’s the brainchild of ‘Matt and Cat’ Robinson.

Matt and Cat have been just like peas and carrots ever since they met in Brisbane and bonded over their shared – and somewhat unusual – balancing act of being students by day and musicians by night. With Matt studying vet science at the University of Queensland vet school and Cat studying law at Griffith University, the pair eventually met through mutual musician friend ‘the Russian on Percussion’ at a party in Fortitude Valley. Matt determined that he would marry Cat within moments of meeting her and strategically placed himself next to her for the Russian circle dance. He invited her for a lamb roast dinner at his place and the rest as they say is history.

We caught the travel bug

Matt and Cat drove around Australia in a red Kombi van named ‘Gavin’ in the summer of 2009. When they reached the Atherton Tablelands they loved what they saw and decided to return one day for good. Two years later Matt and Cat relocated to the Tablelands and joined the community employed as a veterinarian in Mareeba and a solicitor in Atherton. They were married in the rainforest in Tarzali in 2012.

Matt and Cat befriended Dr John McKenzie of the Yungaburra Veterinary Service in 2012 and recognised a kindred spirit in him. Dr McKenzie wanted to retire which gave Matt and Cat just the push they needed to open Ready Vet in 2013, having promised Dr McKenzie to look after his clients and their pets. Little did they know that Ready Vet would quickly grow to be so much bigger than that.

In the time since Ready Vet opened the demand for Dr Matt’s friendly and expert veterinary care has continued to grow with each year

In response to this growth Ready Vet works continually to improve efficiency and build on the impressive team of nurses that support Dr Matt in providing quality healthcare to all patients and an alternative client experience to the big veterinary corporation.

High quality care & service

Ready Vet has a higher ratio of qualified nurses to vets than most rural practices in Australia. In addition to Dr Matt being a ‘super vet’, it’s this nursing edge that enables Ready Vet to offer superior patient care. Matt and Cat’s fresh take on the veterinary industry has quickly earned Ready Vet a reputation for providing attentive and affordable veterinary care delivered at an exceptionally-high standard. In fact, named Ready Vet as the number one animal hospital in the Cairns region in 2016.
