Dr. Matt is the co-owner and co-founder of Ready Vet and the principal veterinarian.
Dr. Matt completed his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland in Brisbane in 2010 having resolutely decided as a 5 year old dog-fanatic and animal-lover to become a vet. Dr. Matt worked in veterinary practices in rural NSW, far north QLD and as a locum vet around Australia. Through those experiences Matt decided that the best practice he could work in was one of his own design and creation. With the help of his wife Cat, Ready Vet was born and quickly gained a reputation as one of the best veterinary surgeries in north QLD. In fact, ThreeBestRated.com.au named Ready Vet as the number one “Animal Hospital” in the Cairns region in 2016.
Dr. Matt is a highly skilled and confident veterinarian whose regular clients love him for his straight-shooting, down to earth and approachable bedside manner. Dr. Matt’s advanced surgical skills and impeccable track record for safe anesthesia have seen him attract a regular following of clients travelling from all over the Tablelands and as far as Mareeba, Dimbulah, Georgetown, Karumba and Cairns. Dr. Matt loves his patients and the feelings are mutual; you will see many of his doggy patients shower him with kisses upon arrival.
While Dr. Matt loves all animals, it is his incredible affinity with dogs in particular that has earned him a reputation for being a first-rate “Dogtor”! It is Dr. Matt’s greatest pleasure and privilege to develop relationships with clients and their pets over time, building trust and helping foster the incredible human-animal bond.
Cat is the co-owner, co-founder and general manager of Ready Vet and a registered veterinary nurse. She is also the creator, host, audio engineer and “Boss Lady” of the Radio Vet Nurse podcast.
Life was once very different for Cat who worked as a solicitor in Brisbane. Since embarking on the ultimate adventure of owning and operating a veterinary surgery Cat has obtained qualifications in bookkeeping, radiation safety, dog obedience training, nutritional advocacy, and veterinary nursing. Cat started managing the practice and nursing in 2013 and has been fully qualified since 2015. In 2019 Cat became one of the first AVNAT registered veterinary nurses in Australia – she is 38th on the register!
Cat has thoroughly enjoyed establishing Ready Vet and entering the world of veterinary medicine. She has been inspired by conferences in Australia and around the world to provide gold standard care at Ready Vet. As part of her role on the Vet Nurse Council of Australia’s Queensland Divisional Committee Cat also helps plan and facilitate CPD events within the state. She could not think of a better person than Matt to work and share her passion with every day and is constantly amazed that he still wants to spend every waking moment outside of work in her company.
Cat loves interacting with patients and making them feel safe and welcome during their visits. She also loves getting to know Ready Vet’s regular clients. Cat has carefully selected the amazing crew at Ready Vet and feels grateful to have each and every one of them on her team.
Sophie began her veterinary science degree in 2013 at James Cook University in Townsville and graduated in 2017. She worked as a mixed practice vet in Roma for 9 months until her partner got a job in his hometown on the Atherton Tablelands, and Sophie jumped at the chance to move back up north. She found her perfect fit slotting into the close-knit Ready Vet family.
Sophie thrives on providing a high standard of care, diagnosing, and treating her patients. Sophie’s special interest areas include internal medicine, pharmacology, and anesthetics. She thoroughly enjoys working up and treating tricky cases! Sophie also enjoys client education and teaching people how to provide the best care for their pets.
On the weekend you might find Sophie going for long hikes, heading out to the reef diving, or enjoying a coffee with her friends. She likes to keep fit, partaking in any sort of outdoor activity or sport, but is also a big fan of settling down with a good book, or any sort of cooking or baking. Sophie’s lovely Labrador Rusa (“Roo”) definitely keeps her busy in her down time!
The percentage of qualified nurses working within Ready Vet is exceptionally high compared to most veterinary surgeries in Australia. Ready Vet’s nurses have been hand-selected to deliver a high standard of service to clients while ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.
Ready Vet’s Client Care (CCR) Team is all about providing specialised support to a group of extremely important people – our clients. Ready Vet CCRs are dedicated to supporting our amazing clients, with a secondary function of providing administrative support to our vets and senior nursing team.
